What is Gua Sha? All You Need to Know About Gua Sha

A Gua Sha (Guasha Board) is a smooth, half-moon shaped stone which can be used to massage the face and body. Often made from Rose Quartz or Jade Stone with 3 or 4 pressure points, the Gua Sha is a natural ancient Chinese alternative technique which involves scraping or spooning your skin to improve circulation and stimulate the lymphatic system. It can help to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, rejuvenate your skin to give a smoother, brighter, natural glow, improve the firmness of your skin and reduce puffiness. A good quality Gua Sha, when used properly, can also help to improve your sleep and improve your  general sense of calm and wellbeing. It can be the best stress relieving, detoxing and purification experience imaginable.

HOW TO USE A GUA SHA?

Always apply natural skincare products, such as serums, oils or moisturisers with your Gua Sha. Start scraping on one side of your face outward and upward from the centre. Use gentle pressure, sweep from your chin, jawline, mouth area, cheeks, around the eye area and the forehead. Then with the big flush, move along to the neck area.  Repeat each movement 4 to 6 times.

The Big Flush: Sweep from the centre of your forehead, under your hairline, down to your temple and ear until you reach your neck. This collects all the lymph you have moved to the side of your face and moves sluggish lymph fluid to your lymphatic drainage.  A big flush is always good between each section’s massage.

For an extra cooling massage, pop your Gua Sha in the refrigerator before use.

To help with hair growth, before going to bed, use your Gua Sha from the forehead back through your hair. It feels like having your hair brushed when you were a child. A Gua Sha can be used not only on your face and head, but on the body too. Stroke up to 5 times in one direction to help tighten connective tissue, reduce cellulite and make your skin feel healthier.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  DO NOT use your Gua Sha on your face if you are prone to broken capillaries. It should also be avoided over broken skin or acne breakouts.

GUA SHA REGIME

The best way to see significant results is to use your Gua Sha 2-3 times per week for 15-20 minutes at a time.
